Immune Globulins Intravenous (IVIG, SCIG, IGIM)
Immune globulin helps to enhance the immune system with antibodies in order to fight against bacteria and viruses. Intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) therapy is a treatment that consists of blood plasma serum gathered from thousands of donors in order to ensure the immune globulin (IG) contains enough antibodies to protect treated individuals against viral and bacterial illness. Human immunoglobulin infusion is a treatment of choice for patients with antibody deficiencies. Therapeutic use of immune globulin products in the 1950s was mainly intended for primary immunodeficiency. Today, there are many other illnesses treated with immunoglobulin infusion by administering the IG intravenously (IVIG), subcutaneously (SCIG), or intramuscularly (IGIM).
