Hyperimmunes are immune globulin serum preparations made from blood plasma that are high in purified antibodies and used to protect against specific diseases by providing short-term protection or passive immunity. Active immunity occurs when a person is exposed to a live pathogen or when a person is injected with a substance that contains the antigen, such as the rabies vaccine. Both hyperimmune globulin products and vaccines cause the individual to become immune to the disease agent as a result of the primary immune response. It reduces the risk or severity of various conditions.
