COVID-19 vaccines from Moderna, Novavax-Sanofi and Pfizer-BioNTech were approved last week by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). These vaccines and more are now available to reserve on BioSupply®.
The FDA approved Pfizer-BioNTech's COMIRNATY®, Moderna's mNEXSPIKE® and SPIKEVAX®, and Sanofi's Nuvaxovid™.
These approvals follow the FDA's Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee (VRBPAC)'s recommendations in May that the composition of the 2026-27 COVID-19 vaccines target the JN.1-lineage XFG variant.
COVID-19 cases low, but rising across the U.S.
According to data as of Aug. 26, the CDC notes that COVID-19 cases are growing in 48 states; however, hospitalizations remain low despite elevated and increasing activity.
While COVID-19 peaks can occur in the summer and winter, the CDC states there could be more summer COVID cases this year if a variant that isn't currently recognized by immune systems becomes common. This may be the case especially for areas like the South and West that did not experience a high level of COVID activity this past winter.
